About us

Mr Andrew Thomas BVSc MRCVS qualified from the University of Bristol in 1985. After a short stint in general practice, Mr Thomas opened the Broad Street, Barry branch of Pethertons in 1988, naming the business after the name of the original building in which it is located. The practice was very successful locally, due to its professional yet caring approach to animals and owners alike. Following this success, Mr Thomas decided to set up his Wentloog Road branch in Rumney, Cardiff. Yet again the approach of the team to caring for both pets and owners has made this branch a success within the local community- with staff receiving recognition from The South Wales Echo following nominations by owners.

The success of the Wentloog Road branch has lead to the opening of a brand new purpose built Rumney clinic on Newport Road. This clinic has separate dog and cat areas, on site parking, a pet shop and dog grooming fascility.

When Mr Thomas retired in May 2015, Miss Rhian Hobrough BSc (Hons) BVSc MRCVS took over as Clinical Director at both sites. Rhian has worked at the practice as a Saturday girl, nursing assistant and vet since she was at school, and she is driven to continue the good work started by Mr Thomas at both sites.

All of our dedicated staff own pets themselves, therefore we understand the range of emotions that owning a pet can bring! With this in mind we aim to provide first class treatment to each and every animal and owner passing through our doors; you are part of our extended Petherton family.
